Elsgoltria Patrana - spicy mint
Elsholtzia Patrena, or Elsholtzia Patrana (Elsholtzia patrinii) - a genus of herbaceous plants of the family Lamiaceae (Lamiaceae).
In modern taxonomy, it is regarded as a synonym for the species Elsholtius ciliate (Elsholtzia ciliata)
An annual plant with a height of up to 100 cm or more. The stem is erect, branched, absent-mindedly pubescent. Leaves 1.5-10 cm long, 1-3.5 cm wide, ovoid-elliptic, narrowed to the base in a long, thin, pubescent petiole, town-serrate. The flowers are collected in a thick spike-shaped unilateral inflorescence 2-6 cm long, 1 cm wide. Calyx 1.5-2 mm long, ovoid, glandular, densely fluffy. Corolla lilac or purple, 3-4 mm long, short pubescent on the outside. Nuts 1-1.5 mm long, dark brown, ovoid.
Elsgoltzia Patrana comes from Asian countries. In the wild, it is distributed in East and Central India, Laos, North Vietnam, China, Japan, Mongolia, as well as in the Far East of Russia - in Primorye, Amur Region, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands. As an alien plant, it is found in Central Europe, the European part of Russia, as well as in North America.
Decorative. Large plants of Patras Elsgoltia look good separately and in a group, they can be combined with other tall species or placed in the background of the flower garden. Attractive unusual dense, one-sided, comb-spike-shaped inflorescences of bright lilac or violet color.
Beneficial features. Elsgolia plants accumulate up to 0.5% of essential oil, which is a clear yellow liquid with a peculiar aroma. Alkaloids, tannins, and vitamin C were also found in the aerial part of the plant. Patren's elsholtia essential oil can be used in perfumes and cosmetics, and the plant is recommended for industrial culture.
Elsgolt Patren is used in folk medicine in many countries. For example, in Tibetan medicine, grass is recommended for pulmonary tuberculosis, and in folk medicine of the Far East - for gastritis, anemia, cough, jaundice.
The aerial mass of the plant has a strong spicy aroma with citrus tones and a mild flavor. Elsgolzia is used in cooking as a spice. The apical parts of the stems with buds or blooming flowers can be added to salads, meat soups and broths, stews, meat pastes, various meat snacks and minced meat. The plant is also recommended as a spice when processing fish.
Agricultural technology. Elsgoltzia Patrana is undemanding to soil conditions. The plant is propagated by seeds sown in early spring or before winter. Elsgoltia seeds are small, they should be sown to a depth of 1-1.5 cm with a seeding rate of 0.3 g / m2.
Elsholtia raw materials are prepared as spices during budding, and as a medicinal product during flowering. The stems are cut at a height of 10-15 cm from the soil surface.
