Aralia: chic but impregnable
The huge presence of thorns has long imprinted danger on trees. This was the case with the tree with a very beautiful name, which I want to say in a chant “Aralia!” That's where the appearance contrasts with the name, someone will think. The original Russian name, by the way, immediately spoke of the prickly essence, because it was called a thorn tree.
Nevertheless, this plant, which in addition to thorns can boast even large leaves, collected in a palm-shaped robe and changing their color scheme from delicate greenery in spring to fantastic purple-pink color scheme in autumn, is very actively used in landscape design.
But aralia is really just a great find for creating, for example, decorative high hedges (aralia can grow up to fifteen meters). Decorative and, at the same time, such a lively wall looks very chivalrous. But in the summer months, an impregnable and insurmountable wall suddenly captivates with its fragrant snow-white or cream flowers, gathered in cute light umbrellas. Extraordinary contrast! Moreover, miracles continue in the fall: spectacular blue-black fruits suddenly begin to appear on the wall.
They are especially beautiful against the background of golden foliage. Indeed, to its appearance, the fruits still continue to give a solemn appearance to the wall. And against the background of gold, they look completely luxurious. Luxuriously royal!
But how to ensure that this living wall always makes such a wonderful impression?
Of course, you need to figure out how to care for the aralia.
Firstly, you need a very well-drained soil, which must first be moistened. As soon as the aralia is planted, it will be happy with the new procedure - mulching. It is best done with peat. The ideal layer thickness is three centimeters. It is also good to periodically produce light, shallow loosening of the soil near the Aral Sea. Even aralia accepts top dressing with approval, and manure is especially effective for aralia. You can use nitroammofosku. Aralia is usually fed in March with the first spring rays and in the summer, when the aralia begins to bloom.
At the expense of frost resistance Aralia, too, you can not worry. Indeed, in relation to frost, this plant manifests a rather brave character.
And a man who dares to breed Aralia and is not afraid of its formidable spikes acquires an acquaintance with an amazing and interesting tree, which has so many unusual and impressive hiding behind its formidable appearance.
By the way, Aralia is a very communicative tree in its essence, despite the names “Spike-tree” and even “Devil-tree” attached to it.
Therefore, using aralia as a plant for hedges, it can be used not only individually, but also combined with other plants. For example, we plant large bushes in one row - aralia, cysticis, chokeberry, and in two rows we plant smaller plants - dwarf barberry, cotoneaster. Such a contrasting chess combination is very impressive. Especially when trees and shrubs are planted very densely. In this case, usually four or five plants are planted on one running meter.
