Forgotten stars. Girkan Dubravnik
The tendency that has captured landscape designers around the world to return long-forgotten plants to gardens and to introduce along with the best flowering soloists in flower beds and modest, natural species will be relevant this year. Plants with the status of "relict" have many advantages: they are able to grow in almost any conditions and require no maintenance. One of these crops is Dubrovnik Girkansky, which not only grows quickly on any soil, but also blooms relentlessly for more than three months.
Decorative merits of Dubrovnik Girkansky
Dubrovnik Girkansky, or teucrium hircanicum - a real mountain treasure. It is not very common today, but once irreplaceable perennial that grows in nature not only in the mountains, but also on dry rocky soils, screes and foothills. In our country, Dubrovniks are often called Dubrovniks, but the difference in name does not change the essence: these are hardy and amazingly colorful plants, perfect for decorating colorful compositions that do not require care. Almost all types of Dubrovnik are very decorative, many during flowering seem to be hidden under a cloud most often of light lilac flowers, but not a single species in spectacularity can argue with Dubrovnik Girkansky.
This is a perennial herb of a herbaceous or semi-shrub type with cirrus or whole, large enough in comparison with the rest of the Dubrovnik whole leaves, slightly similar to mint and forming a very voluminous and lush crown. Girkansky Dubrovnik flowers with purple-pink or lilac color in the form of an elongated spiky dense brush hover effectively over the mass of foliage. Girkan Dubrovnik, in the absence of pruning, after extremely long flowering, degenerates for several years, but even without pruning it will never create bald spots on flower beds and in curbs due to its ability to independently recover by self-sowing. It is charming, forming dense “thickets” of perennials with fragrant small leaves and elongated thin inflorescences-candles, the beauty of which will not be inferior to the best varieties of Veronica and catnip.
Dubrovnik Girkansky has the same height of lush curtains as that of the most beloved garden plants from the number of partner perennials - about 40-60 cm.However, it has advantages over growing sages, and over catnip, and even catnip. But not only are they all the trump cards of Dubrovnik. After all, it blooms longer than any other perennial on the flower bed - from the beginning of summer to September, and even to frost, it is aromatic and has a very fast growth rate. Effectively and amazingly aggressively filling the soil, Dubrovnik, however, does not suppress other plants. Having completed the colorful flowering parade, this plant actively scatters seeds in the fall, from which new plants will grow in the spring, further compacting the “coating” of Dubrovnik and allowing it to conquer new territories more actively.
Conditions Required by Dubrovnik Hyrcanic
Dubrovnik Girkanskiy feels great both in the sun and in partial shade, it is not afraid of either shading or hot southern locations and therefore can be used to decorate almost any flower garden and landscape group.
The universality of the plant is only complemented by the fact that Dubrovnik grows well both on ordinary fertile soils and on poor soil. The only characteristic that is important to him is water permeability, because Dubrovnik will not tolerate moisture stagnation and waterlogging.
You can plant plants both in spring and autumn. Sowing seeds in open soil is carried out only in the winter. Dubrovnik is propagated both by dividing bushes in early spring at the very beginning of regrowth, and by the seed method.
Girkan Dubrovnik Care
Dubrovnik Girkanskiy belongs to rare garden plants, which practically do not require care. This is a completely drought tolerant crop that does not need additional watering and top dressing. Caring for Dubrovnik actually comes down to pruning. It is better to cover young plants in the first winter in the form of a light spud of leaves.
It is advisable to prune Dubrovnik every spring, stimulating even greater plant thickening. Traditionally, all shoots are shortened to 1/3 of their height. If necessary, form a very dense texture, rejuvenate the bush, or when grown in a border, Dubrovnik can be periodically cut to the soil level, completely updating the plant. For border Dubrovniks, it is better to repeat the haircut twice or thrice per season.
Girkan Dubrovnik begins to grow actively only after rhizome growth. For many months after planting, the plant literally freezes, but they should not be afraid of this and fertilizing should be introduced to stimulate growth or it is not necessary to water Dubrovnik. As soon as the root system reaches the desired size, the plant will surprise with its unprecedented activity.
The use of Dubrovnik in garden design
Dubrovnik Girkansky is a universal perennial with a very dense texture, which is suitable for use as a partner or filling plant for almost any composition. It is suitable for decorating landscape plantings of a natural type, as well as for flower beds and flowers of all types and sizes. This is one of the best crops to create a garden that requires minimal care.
This plant is often used to fill the soil on slopes and slopes, in rock gardens and rockeries. Dubrovnik surprisingly well emphasizes the beauty of typical alpine stars, gives volume and splendor to group landings. The beauty of its leaves is ideally emphasized by large boulders. Dubrovnik also looks advantageous at the foot of the supporting walls, in narrow ribbons of rabatok under fences and buildings.
But Dubrovnik is most picturesque in landscape groups imitating wild natural places. This is a landscape plant growing with surprisingly beautiful curtains, creating wild corners in the garden and colorful clearings and thickets. If you give freedom to Dubrovnik, it will easily become one of the most colorful free-growing plants. Love for natural groups does not mean at all that Dubrovnik will be lost on flower beds or in discounts: it can be used in any composition as a background plant, a long-flowering partner, and to create texture lush spots. It very well reveals the beauty of tall roses and other flowering shrubs, favorably emphasizes the standard plants, "closes" the planting.
Girkan Dubrovnik is also good in borders, but when grown in narrow ribbons, it requires more frequent pruning. This perennial quite quickly forms dense borders, it easily thickens with a low edging, so you can create spectacular frames both in flower beds and along the tracks.
Girkan Dubrovnik goes well with almost all garden perennials from beautifully flowering stars to partner plants. It perfectly emphasizes the beauty of roses, daylilies, nivyaniks, echinacea and small petals, and looks good with phlox.
