Artesutobium, or Juniper
Artceutobium (Arceuthobium) Is a genus of semi-parasitic shrubs and herbs of the Santalov family. Previously, this genus was placed in the Mistletoe family or the Stemaceae family.

The most famous species is Juniper Artceutobium (Arceuthobium oxicedri M. Bieb.) The height of the plant is from two to twenty centimeters. The plant is naked, branches are compressed, articulated; the leaves are small, fused into small vaginas; single flowers in the axils of leaves, same-sex, dioecious; stamen flowers with 2–5 separate limb; pistil flowers with a bifid perianth. False fruit in the form of a berry, bluish, ovoid. Small, highly branched parasitic branches numbing; leaves are small, scaly, sitting in pairs; evergreen plant.
It is found in Crimea (mountainous), in the Caucasus (West Caucasian and South Caucasian regions), in Central Asia (mountainous), Middle-earth, Central Europe (south), the Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor, Turkish Armenia, Kurdistan, Iran, the Himalayas. Parasitizes on the roots of junipers, up to an altitude of 2,000-2,500 meters above sea level.
The people call it "juniper".
The stems and leaves of juniper arceutobium are used for medicinal purposes.
The plant contains saponin, alkaloids 0.7%, flavonoids (myricetin, quercetin), leukoanthocyanins, anthocyanins (dolphinidins, cyanidin). The leaves found 3-0-glucoside myricetin. In fruits - essential oil 34–49%, higher fatty acids 8–15% (linoleic, linolenic). The plant has proteocidal properties. A water extract causes an instant suspension and death of ciliates. A decoction of leaves and stems is used in the Caucasus as an anticonvulsant. Fruit powder is used in abscesses.
Method of preparation and use:
1 tablespoon of crushed dry stems and leaves in 1 glass of water, boil for 5 minutes, insist 1 hour, strain, take 1-2 tablespoons 2-3 times a day as an anticonvulsant.
